My local Coffee Shop, Urban Beans, gave me some coffee grounds for my compost and in it were several cups and utensils made out of corn - they are supposed the break down in the compost.
Well the cup is now like tissue papaer, but the utensils, which were much thicker did not break down.
I found a few other things as well. A felt tip pen-which still works! And the band from a milk bottle.
What interesting things have you found in your compost or what unusual item have you tried to compost?

I don't have interesting things, but I do have an interesting new attitude: I take delight in the wonderful rotting qualities of banana peels (tempted to ask for the peels of strangers eating in parks, but too shy to ask!) and I am sad when I see eggshells in my friend's trash. Is my brain decomposing? ;)
pleasure to find such a good artical! please keep update!! ........................................
Acacia - I saw a sign on the top of Vail Mtn that said, Please do not throw your banana peel in the forst floor. It takes over a year to break down! Hope it is faster in the compost pile!
I just put my hair from my haircut and emptied the vacuum bag into mine. I like to put all kinds of stuff in there!
